Explaining the purpose Phex serves is a simple task: this is a free application you can use for sharing files via Gnutella. Or to put it in other words, this is a peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing client for the Gnutella network that you can use free of charge on your Windows-powered PC.

Speaking about the Microsoft-developed operating system, you can easily install Phex on top of anything from Windows 98 onward. It is a standard installation process: download an executable, run it, follow the onscreen instructions presented by a setup wizard. Once the installation completes and you run Phex for the first time, you will be presented with a Configuration wizard – it helps you quickly set up the most basic settings necessary to run Phex properly. You will get to choose your internet connection type, specify the download directory, and choose to subscribe to a content community to automatically download selected files.

The nice thing about Phex’s interface is that it is very easy to figure out and that you can customize it. From the Options menu you can play with the UI’s look and feel, color scheme, and icon pack. You can also change the language the interface uses. Besides English, the application supports French, German, Spanish, and other languages.

As mentioned above, Phex is a peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing client for the Gnutella network that you can use to share files. You can search for and download files, you can share your files with others, you can add new downloads by URL, Magma, or RSS, and you can do it all for free. Phex is released under a GNU general public license, meaning you can use it for as long as you want and not part with your money.

Use Phex on your Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux-powered machine to share files via Gnutella.

Pros

As it’s Java-based, Phex works on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. You can change the UI’s look and feel. Phex is a free file sharing application.

Cons

None that I could think of.
